Bono East is a region of vibrant contrasts — fertile farmlands, serene lakes, sacred groves, waterfalls, and thriving cultural communities. From the Tano Sacred Grove to the scenic river landscapes and historic towns of central Ghana, Bono East offers meaningful experiences for travelers seeking both adventure and heritage.

Kintampo Waterfalls, also known during the colonial period as Sanders Falls, is one of Ghana’s most popular natural attractions. Located about 4 kilometers north of Kintampo on the Kumasi–Tamale road, the falls sit on the Pumpum River, a tributary of the Black Volta.

The waterfall is known for its beautiful cascading flow, forest setting, and three main drops. Water moves over rocky steps and descends through the landscape before continuing its journey toward the Black Volta. The sound of rushing water, the shaded surroundings, and the refreshing atmosphere make Kintampo Waterfalls a favorite stop for travelers moving through central Ghana.

For visitors, Kintampo Waterfalls offers a scenic place to relax, take photographs, enjoy nature, and experience one of Bono East’s best-known landmarks. Depending on conditions and safety guidance, some visitors may also enjoy wading or cooling off in approved areas near the falls.

The site is especially meaningful because it shows another side of Ghana’s inland beauty. Beyond the coast, castles, and cities, Kintampo reminds travelers that Ghana’s natural heritage includes rivers, forests, waterfalls, and peaceful outdoor spaces that deserve protection and responsible enjoyment.

Travel Tip: Wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip. The area can be slippery, especially near the water and during rainy periods. Visitors should follow guide instructions, avoid unsafe climbing, and be cautious when taking photos near wet rocks or moving water.

Best For: Nature lovers, families, photographers, road-trip travelers, students, adventure travelers, and visitors exploring central or northern Ghana.

Recommended Visit Time: 1–2 hours.

Pair With: Fuller Falls, Kintampo Canopy Walkway, Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, Tano Sacred Grove, Techiman, Bono Manso Slave Market, Buoyem Caves and Bats Colony, or a wider Bono East itinerary.

Visitor Note: Kintampo Waterfalls is a natural site and can become crowded during weekends, holidays, and peak travel periods. Guests should respect the environment, avoid littering, and follow all local safety rules.
